The Institute for Africa and Middle East Studies (IAMES) is a research organization established by the Degree No.26/ND–CP dated 15 January 2004 of the Vietnamese Government.  IAMES is a prestigious institute of the VASS and it stands out as Vietnam’s only research organization focusing on African and Middle Eastern issues.  IAMES invests considerable efforts in research and innovation as part of an ongoing mission to advance national knowledge about African and Middle Eastern countries

Since the establishment, IAMES has been actively efforted to cooperate with African and Middle Eastern partners to promote IAMES activities of Afria and Middle East Studies

1. Signing MOUs:

-        MOU between IAMES and the BrenthurstFoundation of South Africa in 2006.

-        MOU between IAMES and the Gulf Research Center of UAE in 2009.

-        MOU between IAMES and Arab and African Research Center (AARC) of Egypt in 2011.

-        MOU between IAMES and the Center for Africa Studies, Ankara University of Turkey in 2010.

-        MOU between IAMES and the Center for Strategic Research (SAM), Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2013.

-        MOU between IAMES and the Center for Studies and Research in Social Sciences (CERSS), Morocco in 2017.

-        MOU between VASS/IAMES and The Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA) in June 19, 2018



2. International Seminars:

-        International Seminar “Vietnam and Africa: Comparative Lessons and Mutual Opportunities” with 100 participants funded by VASS and the Brenthurst Foundations in 2007

-        International Seminar “Vietnam and Africa: Sharing agriculture and development experiences”with 100 participants funded by VASS and the Brenthurst Foundation in Hanoi, 2009;

-        International Seminar “Sharing tourism development between Vietnam, Cambodia and Africa”with 70 participants funded by the Brenthurst Foundation in Phnom Penh and Danang, 2011;

-        International Seminar “Vietnam and Turkey in the new development context”with 90 participants funded by VASS and SAM in Hanoi, 2013;

6. Training:

-        Dr. Kieu Thanh Nga granted by the Turkish Language Scholarship of Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2015

-        MA. Bui Ngoc Tu granted by the Turkish Language Scholarship of Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2016.

 

·       Suggestions for Promoting IAMES and Israel’s Partners Cooperation:

-        Signing MOU between IAMES and Israeli research institutes or university;

-        Giving opportunities for IAMES staffs to study tour or to take part into short-term or long-term training courses related to language, scientific studies in order to enrich their knowledges about Israel;

-        Providing IAMES with documents and materials like books and maganizes related to Israel studies for translation and publication;

-        Jointly organising workshops, roundtables and seminars as both concerns.

-        Carrying out joint projects to research in the variety of investment cooperation, technology transfer, education cooperation and tourism between Vietnam and Israel.
