
In Cambodia, the Tourism Roundtable took place on July 12th 2011 in
Cambodiana Hotel - one of most luxury hotel located in the center of
Phnom Penh nearby Mekong river with 30 participants of African delegation led
by Dr. Terence McNamee, Vietnamese delegation led by Prof. Do Duc Dinh and
Cambodian Tourism Officials and Travel Agents led by Mr. Ang Kim Eang -
President of Cambodian Tourism Association.
In Vietnam, the Tourism Roundtable was organized on July 15th 2011 in FURAMA
hotel – one of top ten dream hotels in the world located by the wonderful white
sand beach of Da Nang city with participants of African delegation
including tourism officials from Zambia, Mozambique, Swaziland, South Africa, Brenthurst Foundation representative and Vietnamese delegation consisting of IAMES staff,
researchers from Da Nang Institute for Social and Economic Development Studies,
Da Nang Center for High Level Human Resource, Da Nang Department of Culture,
Sport and Tourism and local travel agents.
Apart from tourism roundtables, African delegates also carried out field study in
world heritages sites, landscapes, hand-craft villages… such as Royal Palace,
Sliver Pogado, Killing Field in Phnom Penh,
Angkor Thorn and Angkor Wat in Siem Riep and Ancient Town of Hoi An in Quang Nam …etc.
It’s possible to say that the Tourism Roundtables co-organized by IAMES and Brenthurst Foundation was a remarkable event, serving as a forum for all participants to share
their views as well as tourism development experiences in
order to make tourism one of key economic industries of Cambodia, Vietnam and African countries. At
the same time, it contributed to opening cooperative opportunities for cross-continent tourism development
among interested sides of Cambodia, Vietnam and Africa
